Gujarat Industrial Workers Suffer Due to Lack of Safety Norms

This workers' testimonial is part of a panel discussion organised by Prayas in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung on the working conditions of industrial workers around Kadi town in Gujarat. It is clear that in the absence of any safety norms, the risk and/or actual incidence of accidents and resulting injuries are very high in this region. As large numbers of workers here are adolescents, they constitute the largest number of affected persons. Many of them are first time workers. No maternity leaves for women workers, and workplace and sexual harassment are the major concerns that need to be addressed.
