Praful Patel, president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) finally met the representatives of the I-League clubs who were seeking clarity after the news that the Indian Super League (ISL) would be the new top tier in the country thanks to a contractual clause with promoters FSDL.

After months of fighting, including a boycott of the Super Cup 2019, six clubs of the I-League, India’s top tier football league, finally managed to get a meeting with the president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Praful Patel. The clubs, including the likes of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, who have millions of members and fans and have existed for over a century, have been fighting against a move by the federation to replace the I-league with the Indian Super League (ISL) as the highest tier of men’s club football in India. The meeting, however, has opened up avenues for more uncertainty, with the AIFF deferring a final decision by three years. 420 Grams crew and Mihir Vasavda of the Indian Express discuss the latest drama in this never-ending saga.
