On February 14, the Supreme Court reprimanded the Department of Telecommunications for going against the apex court by issuing a notification to private telecom companies. In October 2019, the SC had ordered the telecom companies to pay back dues worth Rs 1.47 lakh crore to the government. However, a DoT official, going against the SC order, had issued a notification that the private telcos should not be harassed over non-payment of dues.
