Speaking on Energy, Oil and Geopolitics at a panel discussion on “ Idea of India: A People's Agenda” oganised by the Centre for Policy Analysis in New Delhi, Mani Shankar Aiyar says the equivalent of coal and iron ore in the 21st century is oil and gas. He emphasises on building an Asian Oil and Gas Community and says the sense that the gas present in this region has to be used by the countries of the region, is largely absent from the diplomacy of the countries of Asia. Aiyer says India let the oil diplomacy wither on the vine by getting involved with the geopolitics of others. The most tangible manifestation was to be the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline.
