A cease-fire brokered by Egypt and in the final stages, the US, between Hamas and Israel has finally halted the eight-day conflict in Gaza. 170 Palestinians died including 37 children and 12 women in the brutal Israeli bombing of Gaza, one of the most thickly populated regions in the world. Rocket fire from Gaza killed 5 Israelis.

In the dark of night, on 14 November, the United Nations Security Council met to discuss Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. As elections in Israel are on the horizon, the Israeli Defense Force conducted an extra-judicial assassination of Hamas’ Ahmad Jabari, who only hours beforehand had received a draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel (according to Nir Hasson at Haaretz). Jabari’s assassination was followed by a barrage by Israeli aircraft and warships.

On Sunday evening, November 4th, about 60 friends of Palestine -- theatre persons, writers, artists, film makers, academics, students and activists -- gathered outside Delhi’s Siri Fort auditorium, the venue for the Israeli state-sponsored performance by The Cameri Theatre. Their form of protest was an unusual one. All of them wore T shirts which said, in bold black letters on white, No to Israeli Apartheid.
