#10YearChallenge: Aadhaar Edition
On January 28, 2009, India first introduced the idea of Aadhaar, thereby leading to the formation of the Unique Identification Authority of India. What was introduced as a mechanism for change and better administration of welfare schemes, was soon exposed as a mere tool for controlling and surveilling the entire country. Ten years down the line, those who were promised the benefits of this scheme, seemed to have been the recipients of the biggest collateral damage in its implementation. Eminent speakers like Justice (Retd) AP Shah, Jean Drèze, Reetika Khera and Supriya Sharma shed light on the many reasons Aadhaar has failed us.
