Anganwadi workers in J&K have been waiting for their monthly wage of Rs 5,000 since the past nine months. Since the past two weeks, the workers have been protesting in Srinagar under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association, against the State government's decision to disperse their honorariums through Gram Panchayats. Ever since this policy change, Anganwadi workers, who come under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under the State Government, have not been paid monthly wages. Many of these women feel betrayed as they have been Anganwadi workers under ICDS for nearly 40 years.
