A ‘Jan Gan Man’ march led by former JNUSU president and CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar has spooked the Bihar’s administration. The march was stopped by the police, who report to Nitish Kumar’s JDU government, from starting at Champaran’s Gandhidham.

The month-long march, which would have covered the Bihar state, was organised to protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and imminent National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

Now stopped, Kanhaiya Kumar begins a dharna outside the Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram in Champaran, protesting against administration’s action.

Tweeting about the incident, Kumar said, “today, a month-long Jan-Gan-Man Yatra was to begin in Bapu Dham (Champaran) to protest against the anti-poor CAA-NRC-NPR by bowing to Gandhiji. People from all sections of the society are present to participate in this yatra, but the administration has taken us all into custody some time ago.”

Only a day earlier, Bihar’s CM Nitish Kumar, who is also Janata Dal (United) president, expelled two senior party leaders Prashant Kishor and Pawan Verma for challenging and questioning his support to Citizenship (Amendment) Act [CAA].
