Google Confirms Disruption in Drive, Gmail Services

‘We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly,’ the tech giant said.

After users took to social media to complain about a disruption in Google’s services, including Gmail and Drive, the tech giant issued a statement confirming an outage.

“We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly,” read a statement on its Google Apps status page.

“We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 8/20/20, 1:39 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem (sic),” an update on the same page said later.

According to Downdetector, a portal which tracks outages, 62% of the problems being reported on Gmail are related to attachments. A number of users on social media platforms complained that they had been unable to attach files to their emails.

Issues with both of Google’s services surfaced at about 9:30 a.m. this morning, according to the two graphs.

PTI has reported that the issue is not limited to India and that users from across the world are also facing glitches. However, not everyone has been affected.

This is the second time in two months that Google’s services in India have let users down. In July, Gmail services were down for hours.
