Kashmir: Drivers Badly Hit by Decline in Tourism

The scrapping of Article 370 and 35A and the subsequent lockdown was the beginning of a long, dry spell for those whose livelihood depends on tourists.

Taxi and tempo stands across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir have been empty; drivers turn up on a daily basis and wait for tourists, who never come. Since August 2019, tourism has been on a decline in Kashmir. The scrapping of Article 370 and 35A and the subsequent lockdown was the beginning of a long, dry spell for those whose livelihood depends on tourists.
