In order to deal with the dearth of water for farming, Madhya Pradesh government is constructing two mega dams—Kundalia and Mohanpura. With these dams, land spread over 1 lakh hectares will be irrigated. This is the first project in India which will be executed by private companies. The government has taken loans worth thousands of crores of rupees from Asian Development Bank and NABARD. Only time will tell how beneficial these dams will turn out to be; but with these projects, the government has started privatisation of irrigation.
