In North Kashmir's Sopore, football was always the no. 1 sport. Decades of decline, owing to the political climate in Kashmir, though, led to a drastic decline in the numbers of young people taking part in the sport. Of late, local youth have taken it on themselves to challenge the status quo. Newsclick travelled to the area in November 2018 and met up with a few young men who had decided to give Sopore something to cheer about. Over a hundred clubs from across the area turned up to participate in four entirely local night-time tourneys – the likes of which Kashmir had never seen before.
