SC Collegium Recommends Transfer of 17 Judges Across High Courts; Reshuffles 5 CJs

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of five chief justices at different high courts, the appointment of eight new high court chief justices, and the transfer of 17 judges across various high courts.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of five chief justices at different high courts, the appointment of eight new high court chief justices, and the transfer of 17 judges across various high courts.

Tripura High Court Chief Justice A.A. Kureshi has been recommended as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, while Justice Indrajit Mahanty, who is currently the CJ at Rajasthan, is being sent to the Tripura High Court.

Madhya Pradesh High Court’s CJ Mohammad Rafiq has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while the acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court R.V. Malimath has been recommended as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Meghalaya High Court’s CJ Biswanath Somadder has been recommended to the Sikkim High Court. Justice Ranjit V. More, who originally hails from the Bombay High Court and is presently a judge in Meghalaya, has been recommended as CJ there.

The Collegium has recommended that the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s CJ A.K. Goswami be appointed as CJ of the Chhattisgarh High Court, while the latter high court’s judge Prashant Kumar Mishra has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal has been recommended for the appointment as Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court.

In addition, the Collegium recommended the transfer of 17 judges across high courts.

For the appointment of the Chief Justices at the High Courts, the Collegium comprises CJI NV Ramana and Justices UU Lalit and AM Khanwilkar. While for the transfer of judges, the Collegium comprises two more judges i.e. Justices DY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao.
