Newsclick talked to Dipa Sinha, Convenor of Right to food campaign. In 2015, Supreme Court was hearing the case to decide whether Aadhaar would be mandatory for welfare sector schemes. The argument against Aadhaar was that it was against the citizen's right to privacy. This is what led the Supreme Court to debate on the privacy issue. With the right to privacy now becoming a fundamental right, the issues related to welfare schemes are likely to come back to the court. Dipa talked to us about the impact that the right to privacy might have on food related schemes like PDS, mid-day meal, etc.
