As Akhilesh Yadav Flies High, Mayawati Plays Low

The Bharatiya Janata Party is suddenly wary of its electoral prospects in Uttar Pradesh. BJP and Congress both predict the Samajwadi party’s doom. Whereas Akhilesh Yadav seems to be gaining strength, as far as public opinion is concerned. He has emerged from his father’s shadows. He now walks without the baggage of goons and corruption that the party had come to carry. There might be a coalition emerging, with Congress, RLD and Akhilesh Yadav. If all three come together, they will have a larger appeal to the younger generation. The other side of the picture is Mayawati. She has an intact Dalit vote bank and is also eyeing the Muslim votes. BJP continues with its politics of communal polarization by providing more space to RSS. While BJP projects itslef as the only pro development party, their ‘growth’ claims have proven to be hollow.
