Civil rights activist Gautam Navlakha talks to NewsClick about Amit Shah's Lok Sabha speech, in which he claimed that "one-third of Kashmiris are not with us" and blamed India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for this situation. Jammu and Kashmir has been under President's rule since last December, and on July 28, 2019, Lok Sabha gave its assent to extend President's rule in the state for 6 more months. 

With the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra, more restrictions on free movement have been imposed in the state, disrupting local businesses. Meanwhile, ordinary democratic processes like free speech and protest are not available to the people, and Amit Shah has remained silent on these critical issues.
