Anomalies in Jewar Land Acquisition

The construction of Noida International airport is about to start. For this, the first phase of land acquisition has been completed. The UP government has given a go-to sign for the second phase of land acquisition. The affected farmers have raised several issues since the acquisition was notified, including violation of the consent related provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Resettlement, Rehabilitation act 2013, forced evictions, miscalculation of compensation, rampant corruption by officials, and thoroughly inadequate rehabilitation. While the farmers’ struggle to challenge these violations are ongoing, the process of acquisition of another 1334 hectares of land from 6 villages in the area had already begun.
