Demonetisation in India has created acute crisis in the entire nation. With the scarcity of liquid cash, economy and livelihoods have been disastrously affected. Amid extreme distress, big politicians are organizing extravagant weddings for their children. According to the news reports, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s daughter got married at a ceremony in Nagpur attended by a host of dignitaries, including Central ministers Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu, BJP president Amit Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. The newspapers reported that 50 chartered planes were deployed to ferry VVIP guests to the wedding. While Reddy brothers reportedly spent 500 crore rupees on their daughter’s wedding and Gadkari deploys planes, there is a withdrawal limit of only 2.5 lakh rupees for common people. With the poor’s wedding getting cancelled due to lack of cash, and BJP politician’s having spendthrift ceremonies, doesn’t it show BJP’s double-standards?
