Cartoon Click: The Kerala Vs Gujarat Story

Irfan |
On the basis of the film ‘The Kerala Story’, BJP has opened a front against the Kerala government and Muslims. Meanwhile, NCRB data on Gujarat seek many answers.

BJP-ruled states are far ahead of Kerala with regard to “missing women”, as per the government’s own National Crime Records Bureau. In 2021, as many as 6,158 women have gone missing from Kerala, while 9,812 were reported missing in Gujarat and 10,962 in Karnataka. The figures of the past five years are even more frightening. Over 40,000 women have been reported missing from Gujarat alone, where BJP has been ruling for the past 27 years. The party is using this film to spread misinformation and Islamophobia. It is also being seen as defaming Kerala. What’s more, some BJP state governments have also made it tax-free. Instead of getting to the root of the problem and living up to PM Modi’s much-hyped ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, the BJP and its governments are promoting a film being advertised through false figures and giving a religious colour to the grave problem facing India and its women – of forced labour, trafficking, flesh trade among others.
