On the night of August 8, Rohit, a 17-year old Dalit along with two other Dalit youths were beaten and abused by Thakurs during a Kanwar Yatra in Modinagar town. Next day morning, when Devendra, Rohit’s father, along with a couple of others went to reason about the incident, they were all stopped and beaten up. Rohit was beaten to death, while 10 others were injured.
