Cultivators in MP Struggle with Contract Farming
The farmers of Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh have been involved in contract farming for the past three years. They say they are facing a lot of difficulties due to this system. Big companies fix the crop in advance, but when the time for payment comes, they either raise objections and often do not even procure the crops. The farmers also say they are forced to use only those fertilizers which are decided upon by the company even if it affects the fertility of the soil.
