This is a Newsclick series on the Forest Rights Act of 2006, which seeks to highlight the rights of Adivasis and other Forest Dwelling communities in India. This Act allows Adivasis to reside in forests and claim land titles as individuals or communities who are dependent on the forest for a livelihood. However, apathy, corruption and lapses in implementation has resulted in over 19 lakh claims being rejected across India. To further compound the problem, the Supreme Court had ordered eviction of all those people whose claims had been rejected by local governments.
