Former Tamil Nadu Education Policy Convenor Explains How Bureaucracy Intervened

Professor L Jawahar Nesan, member-cum-convener of the high-level education committee set-up to formulate a distinct State Education Policy (SEP) for Tamil Nadu, resigned on May 10 citing frequent interference of certain higher officials. The officials reportedly threatened and pressured Nesan to form Tamil Nadu's SEP in tune with the New Education Policy 2020. Notably, the state government had rejected the NEP. Speaking to NewsClick, Prof Nesan said, "I have no problem discussing the NEP, but if it is aggressively pushed by the bureaucracy, I fear people of the state will not get justice."
