As the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has become an Act now, the protests against the act, which aims at granting citizenship based on religion, have intensified, especially in Assam and Tripura. The two states have been engulfed in violence and are witnessing curfews and internet shutdown. However, in an advisory issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcast, the government has asked the satellite TV channels to be “cautious” about broadcasting sensitive content from Northeast, which can promote “anti-national attitudes”.
