Gujarat Polls: Silent Anger Against BJP Clearly Visible in State’s Ceramic Hub of Morbi

Majority of the businessmen alleged that the government’s faulty policies are “destroying the industry and ditching their loyal supporters”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise announcement of demonetisation last year hit hard hundreds of daily-wage labourers, traders and industrialists in the ceramic hub of Morbi in Gujarat. When they finally managed to come to terms, the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) once again gave them another shock.

A majority of the businessmen alleged that the government’s faulty policies are “destroying the industry and ditching their loyal supporters”.

Though the majority of the industrialists were reluctant to either praise or criticise the governments at the Centre and in the state fearing a crackdown on their business, a section of the industrialists who have long stood by the BJP are unhappy with the ruling party.

The anger among Patidars against the saffron party is also visible in the industry as the majority of the businessmen belong to the same community.
