Students and teachers jointly protested at Ministry of Human Resource Development against the proposed move of the government to scrap the University Grants Commission and replace it with Higher Education Commission of India Act.
The HECI will have no grant giving power and that power is being taken over by the MHRD. This will result into more political interference and diffusion of academic freedom.
