The 2012 Nirbaya gang-rape case, as it is popularly known as, had led to intense discussions on how sexual assault must not be reported by media. There has been a rise in the coverage of sexual assault cases by the Indian media since 2012 and it has given rise to discussions around violence against women. However, it is a shame that nearly five years later, media coverage on sexual assault continues to indirectly reveal the identity of victims. Often the ethnicity of the complainant or the place of stay/work are exposed in media reports.
