The project is proposed on the Kashang and Kerang streams - the right bank tributaries of the Satluj River in Morang tehsil of Kinnaur districts in Himachal Pradesh. 1,000 families living in eight villages of three panchayats are to be affected by the project. These families mainly depend on commercial horticulture and selling forest produce. A total of 61 hectares of land in the Chilgoza and Deodar forests will be diverted for the project in addition to some agricultural land from Pangi village.
