April 9 is the birth anniversary of the popular public intellectual Rahul Sankrityayan (1893-1963). The author-translator-editor of nearly 100 books, Sankrityayan wrote extensively on the relationship between society, politics, and religion. He outrightly rejected the role of religion in politics and nation-building. Not only that, he also called for the deterioration of religion that vilifies humanity.
