Fathima's Suicide at IIT-M: Institutional Murder?
Fathima Latheef, an 18-year-old student from Kerala, committed suicide in her hostel room at the IIT Madras campus, Chennai. Her parents have alleged that some faculty members from the institute had discriminated based on her religion. Following this incident, Students’ Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest in front of the campus, while students from the institute held a protest inside the campus. They have alleged that this was an “institutionalised murder” and have demanded a detailed probe.
