'India Is Not Prepared for Online Education'

Several lakhs children in India struggle for their daily meals and many of them are homeless.

"Several lakhs children in India struggle for their daily meals and many of them are homeless. A huge majority of students don't have smart devices and accessibility to the internet. Pushing online education at this juncture will intensify the digital divide between the haves and have nots. The State is capable of making online education possible, but the central government is failing to do it. On the contrary, the New Education Policy(NEP) is being promoted which seeks to make education a market oriented business. The policy doesn't talk at all about the drop outs, which will increase in this academic year,'' says educationist and author Ayesha Natarasan, in an interview with NewsClick.
