Director and Screenwriter, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, spoke on ‘Upholding India’s Pluralism’ at the recently held Idea of India Conclave. Looking at the rise of Hindutva politics in retrospect, he said that an inadequate political and economic structure coupled with ‘minority appeasement’ by the Congress gave rise to Rightist politics, which struck a chord with a large section of the anguished middle class. The future of Modi and BJP, therefore, depends on which path this middle class chooses to move in.
