Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on Tuesday for sharing information about militants who gunned down four civilians in Rajouri on Sunday. The informer’s identity will not be disclosed, the police said.

The civilians were killed and six others injured when militants fired indiscriminately at residents of Dangri village, in Pir Panjal Valley, outside Rajouri town.

The next day, a suspected IED blast near the spot killed two minors and injured several others taking the toll to six in what many security officials said was one of the major “targeted attacks” in the region.

The attack was followed by widespread protests across the Jammu division with many protesters questioning the J&K administration’s role.

Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha reached the village on Monday and expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased. Sinha assured the families and locals that security agencies would investigate the attack and bring justice to the victims. A special team from the National Investigation Agency is present at the crime scene.

The last rites of the victims, held at Dangri cremation ground, were attended by top police and administration officials, including director general of police Dilbag Singh, divisional commissioner Jammu and ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the crematorium took a procession and raised slogans. The attack caused fear and anguish in the region, which has witnessed a surge in militancy since last year. As many as 186 militants, including 56 foreigners, have been reportedly killed in the region.
