Love Jihad Law: Tool for Religious Polarisation
Following the UP ordinance on 'Love Jihad', BJP-ruled states are rushing to frame similar legislations. Interestingly, such a legislation was cleared in Nuremberg, Germany in 1935 to protect the so-called purity of German Race which was followed by genocide of Jewish people. Such divisive and sectarian legislation is subverting the foundation of Indian democracy. Every progressive country has had to repeal such laws, for collective growth. Our country is facing multiple challenges, be it Covid-19 or the border disputes with China and Pakistan. The concern, however, is how are we choosing to deal with them: by dividing the country along religious lines or upholding constitutional values?
