The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, was enacted to protect the rights of street vendors and hawkers. But the Delhi police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials continue to harass them. The hawkers and vendors around Meena Bazar near Jama Masjid, Daryaganj book market and Karol Bagh market have always been a target of this harassment. The officials always act against them and treat them as encroachers.
