The recent implementation of GST has affected crores of Beedi workers. These workers work for over 12 hours to make beedi (a mini cigar filed with tobacco and wrapped in a dry leaf). GST has proved to be devastating for these workers. Women involved in Zari work (an intricate art of weaving threads made of fine gold or silver into fabrics, primarily made of silk to create intricate patterns) also expressed their anger at the policy, as it has left them without work. The beedi and zari workers are present in huge numbers at the mahapadav, to make their voices heard.
