Modi's China Visit Beyond Meeting Terracotta Soldiers

Newsclick interviewed Seema Mustafa, well-known journalist and political commentator on Modi's China visit and its significance in India China relations. Seema felt that in spite of two high visibility meeting in eight months between the two leaders -- President Xi Jingping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- the business transacted seems very little. China is keen to settle the border issue, starting with delineating the Line of Actual Control and wants India to partner it on the Silk Route including the maritime route. No progress seems to have occurred on either. Some developments are there on economic issues, but without a geo-strategic understanding, economic relations may hit future roadblocks. According to Seema, this visit may have helped in building up Modi image further as a "great leader" in India, but did not produce enough output compared to the investment the two leaders have made in these meetings.
