Mumbai Collective's Celebrating Freedom and Pluralism

Mumbai Collective

A group of concerned citizens of Mumbai have organised a two day collective to reaffirm their commitment to the constitutional rights and celebrate the ideals of freedom, pluralism, inclusion and tolerance in India. The effort was to bring people together from all walks of life in Mumbai to jointly declare that they strongly uphold the syncretic traditions of Indian culture. In the collective, there was a combination of panel discussions, talks and various cultural expressions of harmony, solidarity and protest including music, dance, painting and street plays. There were discussions and debates on themes like the future of secularism; attacks on evidence-based history; the undermining of secular education; the relationship between caste, patriarchy and communal ideologies; the attacks on science and reason; and the role of media in these troubled times. Here the talks of Megha Pansare, K M Shrimali, Ashok Dhawale and Sitaram Yechuri.
