Nawakadal Enounter: Charred Homes and Destroyed Belongings

What happens to an area where an encounter takes place? Newsclick visits the residential colony in Nawakadal in downtown Srinagar where two Hizbul Mujahideen militants died in a joint military operation between the J&K police and CRPF on May 19. As many as 12 houses were burnt down and the belongings of the residents, including money, jewellery, food, and clothes, were destroyed. The families have become homeless, leaving them struggling for survival and vulnerable to the pandemic.
