Non-cooperation and Khilafat Movement: Lessons for Contemporary India

As we look around us today, we can see protests taking place in different parts of the world. In many of these places, those who are protesting are being silenced through violence or being called out as anti-national. However, anyone who says raising the flag of revolt is anti-national, has no idea of history, even Indian history. As India gets ready to mark 100 years of the non-cooperation movement -- the biggest movement in Indian history -- Professor Sucheta Mahajan, who teaches at the Centre of Historical Studies in JNU, joins Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay in this episode of Present, Past and the Future to discuss this watershed movement and also shed light on what lessons it holds for contemporary India.
