The unemployment rate has reached 24%, probably the highest in independent India's history. 31% of pre-lockdown jobs have disappeared. The most dangerous trend is that nearly seven crore people, which is 17% of the labour force, have stopped looking for jobs. Journalist Aunindyo Chakravarty talks about these trends.
