The ongoing debate on Triple Talaq in our country has very little to do with women’s rights and everything to do with politics of polarisation. For BJP, it is a peg to push their agenda of uniform civil code. For All India Muslim Personal Law Board, it is about protecting their archaic anti-women rules. Either way, the debate which should be focussed on women and their rights, has pivoted to the narrow path of religious politics.
