Is Reservation on an Economic Basis Justified or Illegitimate?
Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Central government decided to give 10% reservation to the economically weaker sections, citing social justice. This decision was implemented after the 103rd Constitutional Amendment. Soon after, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court calling this decision against the basic structure of the Constitution. The hearing on this has been going on for the last few days before a five-judge bench of the apex court.
