Rich Feasting on the Poor In Modi's India

Between 2014 and 2016, India’s total wealth increased by 17 lakh crore

Between 2014 and 2016, India’s total wealth increased by 17 lakh crore.

While the total wealth of the country increased by 17 lakh crore, the wealth of the top 1% of the population increased by 30 lakh crore. Which means that the increase in the wealth of top 1% is higher than the increase in wealth of the entire country.

How is this even possible?

It was possible because - the top 1% of the population appropriated the entire increase in country’s wealth. They have also taken away 13 lakh crore belonging to the bottom 99% of the population.

As a result the wealth of the top 1% increased from 216 lakh crore to 233 lakh crore, while the wealth of bottom 99% fell from 110 lakh crore to 97 lakh crore – between 2014 and 2016.
