The RSS Project: Distorting History, Saffronising Society

India Should Say No to the RSS Version of History
Interview with Prof. K.M. Shrimali
Interviewed by Teesta Setalvad

After Independence, Sangh has fought its divisive battles on many fronts.  But the imminent threat is of the RSS brigade distorting history to serve their ideological project of converting secular, democratic republic into Hindu Rashtra. They are focusing only on the preservation of the Brahminical version of history. While medieval period in their terminology is the period of the Muslims which should 'not' be read or studied.  Within weeks of this government coming to power, a couple of statements found an echo. About plastic surgery being present in ancient India or the fact that Kunti gave birth to children suggests that stem cell research existed in ancient times, are few such statements. K.M. Shrimali, eminent historian of the early Indian period speaks to Teesta Setalvad of Communalism Combat on the dangerous project, of colonial origin, afoot in India under direct guidance of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Prof. K.M. Shrimali states, that the most important thing for people to be imbibing from discourses such as these is to be inquisitive, to ask questions. Rational people need not be afraid of what is being passed on as religious and sacred.
