Slogan ‘No to Suicide, Unite to Fight’ Echoes in Lucknow

Thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh gathered at Lucknow today, 15th March for a ‘Kisan Pratirodh Rally’ with a slogan of “aatmhatya nahi, sangharsh karenge” (No to Suicide, Unite to Fight).

After the success of their struggles in Rajasthan and Maharashtra, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has started its movement in Uttar Pradesh. Farmers from the state are facing distress not unlike their counterparts across the country.

Ashok Dhawale, President of AIKS, and one of the primary leaders in the Maharashtra movement addressed the gathered farmers. Hannan Mollah, Secretary, AIKS, Subhashini Ali, Polit bureau member CPI(M), Heeralal Yadav, CPI(M) state Secretary, U. P., Mukut Singh, Secretary, AIKS, U.P were among the few who addressed the farmers.

Their demands included loan waivers for farmers, lowering the prices of electricity and fertilizers, remunerative price be 1.5 times the investment, removing restrictions on sale and purchase of animals among others.

Women and farm laborers were also present in the rally. Workers from various unorganised sectors also participated in the rally. The farmers had gathered to raise their voices against the Adityanath government and they plan to continue their struggle till their demands are met.
