After Kanhaiya Kumar’s scintillating call for Azaadi in India following his release from jail, Malayalam singer Pushpavathy Poypadathu has composed and recorded an Azaadi song.
A part of the song directly takes up the slogans which resounded on the steps of the Administrative Block in JNU, now christened Freedom Square. It ends in the manner Kanhaiya Kumar ended his speech: “Lal Salaam, Neel Salaam” (Red Salute, Blue Salute). This refers to the call for unity between Left and Ambedkarite organisations that came forth from the struggle in JNU.
