In Assam, a total of 3,30,27,661 persons had applied for inclusion of their names in the updated list of the National Register of Citizens but more than 19 lakh people have been excluded from the final list of the NRC that was released by the government on August 3, 2019.
In Assam, a total of 3,30,27,661 persons had applied for inclusion of their names in the updated list of the National Register of Citizens but more than 19 lakh people have been excluded from the final list of the NRC that was released by the government on August 3, 2019.Following this, various human rights organisations came together to organise ‘People’s Tribunal on Contested Citizenship in Assam’. The event saw presentations by senior lawyers, academics and activists interspersed with testimonies of the people from Assam.
