Health workers appointed at Tamil Nadu’s Amma Mini Clinics have lost their jobs with the DMK government discontinuing the scheme. The previous AIADMK government had launched the scheme with much fanfare and little preparation. Around 1,600 doctors and 3,600 multipurpose hospital workers were employed under the scheme. Dr S Kasi, general secretary, Doctor’s Forum for Public Health, criticises the contractualisation of health work in the public sector and urges the government to absorb the mini clinic health workers.
