A 45-year-old Kashmiri Pandit named Sanjay Kumar Sharma, a bank guard by profession, was killed by unknown gunmen who fired at him from a close range on Sunday morning. The shooting occurred barely 50 metres from Sharma’s home in Achan village, south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. This is the first targeted killing of a minority community member in Kashmir since last October. Outraged by the incident, the Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti slammed the Centre for the current situation. Rayees Mohammad Bhat, DIG of the South Kashmir range, said that the gunmen would be tracked down and neutralised. Local Muslim residents joined the family in condemning the killing.
